Omar Barakat, MD
Dr. Omar Barakat is a board certified, Interventional Radiologist and Vein Specialist with an expertise in minimally invasive procedures. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology and the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Barakat also holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Barakat was born and raised in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago. He received his undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree from Loyola University Chicago, where he graduated magna cum laude. His medical school training was completed at St. George’s University School of Medicine, graduating magna cum laude. In medical school, Dr. Barakat was awarded the Commendation in Ethics and Professionalism, a coveted award for first year medical students. Dr. Barakat completed his Internship in Internal Medicine and his Residency in Diagnostic Radiology from The University of Connecticut Health Center. Dr. Barakat received his Vascular and Interventional Radiology fellowship training at the prestigeous Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology/Washington Unverisity School of Medicine. While at Mallinckrodt, Dr. Barakat worked along side several world-renowned interventionists.
He is a member of the Society of Interventional Radiology, American College of Radiology, and the Radiological Society of North America.
Dr. Barakat has been involved in Radiology research over the last 10 years and has has co-authored several articles on Interventional Oncology, specially regarding locoregional therapies for primary and secondary malignancies involving the liver. He has also been featured in publications such as the Fundamentals of Diagnostic Radiology, highlighting his work on the Venous System and Non-Vascular Intervention.
Dr. Barakat specializes in a range of Vascular and Interventional sectors including Interventional Oncology, Dialysis Management, Endovascular Treatment, Varicose Veins and Pain Management. He also enjoys nonsurgical cosmetic procedures for the face and body and is passionate about patient care.
