NovaThreads® are small pre-loaded hypodermic needles, or microcannulas, containing polydioxanone material (PDO), an absorbable surgical suture. These dissolvable threads are inserted into the lower plane of your skin in specific configurations, creating a lift or mesh effect that liftsand tightens. During the four to six months needed to fully absorb the PDO suture, your skin is also repairing itself around it, maintaining the improvements after the sutures are absorbed.
NovaThreads® are FDA approved for all skin areas, but are especially effective for the neck and jawline, which are challenging to treat effectively with botox or injectable fillers.

Am I a candidate for NovaThreads®?
NovaThreads® provide an excellent solution to mild skin laxity but excessive jowling and heavy sagging are not well-treated with absorbable sutures as there is too much weight for the delicate threads to hold and too much tissue to reposition.

How do I prepare for this procedure?
If you are taking any blood thinning medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, or Aleve it is important to stop one week before your procedure. We also recommend using a vitamin C Serum a few weeks before the procedure to help skin heal faster.
How long does the procedure take?
Your appointment will last approximately 1 hour for pre-procedure preparation,the procedure itself, and post-procedure evaluation.
What are the most common side effects?
Swelling, bleeding, and soreness at the insertion site. Rare complications include: infection, suture migration or visibility through the skin.
How long is the recovery?
Patients experience bruising and minor swelling for 1-2 days, which is expected as part of the body’s response to the sutures.
How long will results last?
Results are determined by the area targeted, the amount of threads used, and your skin’s elasticity. The lip border, wrinkles and smoker’s lines around the mouth normally last 3-6 months. The more complex procedures usually last for about 12-18 months. Our providers will discuss what results you can realistically expect.
Mesh or Lyft – Either or Both?
NovaThreads® can be implanted in two ways: a “mesh” structure or a lifting approach.*
For the mesh method, your provider implants several threads that cross each other like a hash tag sign (#). Results appear naturally over time as the collagen responds to the sutures and tightens the skin.
For a more immediate and dramatic result, individual sutures are inserted the same way, except they can be pulled in 1 or 2 directions, creating an instant skin repositioning. The PDO sutures have barbs which provide a grip underneath the skin, securing the lift. This approach can be used to give the face a more lifted look, reduce the appearance of nasolabial folds, and even provide more contour to the neck.
