Fine Lines and Wrinkles
As our skin ages, the connective tissues within break down. These strands of collagen and elastin are responsible for holding our skin in place and providing its elasticity. When they deteriorate, the skin becomes loose and lines form. These lines can range from delicate to more substantial and occur across the face and body.
While some level of wrinkling is natural, premature or pronounced lines detract from your appearance. We offer a wide range of treatment options for facial lines, with procedures ranging from injections to threads to lasers. Schedule a complimentary consultation to learn more about which treatment might be ideal for your needs.
What causes fine lines and wrinkles?
We all experience lines as the years pass, but some factors contribute to more noticeable wrinkles. Some of these can be managed with ongoing care, and others are out of our control.
- Age – The skin becomes more delicate and less elastic over time. It also produces less oil, contributing to dryness which makes lines more noticeable. The natural fat within the skin also becomes depleted, which contributes to sagging skin and accompanying wrinkles.
- Sun exposure – The sun’s rays contain ultraviolet light. This radiation breaks down collagen and elastin to sap the skin’s flexibility.
- Tobacco use – Smoking has a negative impact on the skin’s collagen, contributing to premature aging and wrinkling.
- Facial structure and expressions – Some faces are more naturally expressive than others. If you tend to smile widely or crinkle your eyes or forehead, these lines will become entrenched in the skin over time.
Can I prevent wrinkles?
The best step you can take to prevent wrinkles is to focus on your skincare. This should include wearing appropriate sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 (ideally, 30 or more). You should also use moisturizer regularly to help hydrate the skin. We partner with ZO Skin Health and SkinCeuticals to offer professional products that help keep your skin at its absolute best – ask if you’re interested in recommendations.
Other ways you can prevent lines include avoiding tobacco use and maintaining a healthy diet to provide your skin with a range of nutrients.
Can I improve wrinkles at home?
The home skincare mentioned above is the best way to focus on anti-aging at home. Introducing a retinol can also help improve your skin’s appearance. But these measures will require long-term, ongoing use of a range of products and are more appropriate for prevention rather than treatment.
If you’re interested in treating existing wrinkles, professional treatments will offer more pronounced results.
Wrinkle Treatments
We’ll create a treatment plan that suits your needs, preferences and budget to address facial lines. It may include any of the following:
- Botox or Dysport – Neuromodulators prevent facial muscles from receiving nerve commands. This keeps the target muscles relaxed when you frown or smile, allowing lines to fade. When appropriately injected, you will look entirely natural but will see wrinkle improvements.
- Dermal Fillers – Fillers add a substance, typically hyaluronic acid, below the skin to boost volume. This both fades lines and enhances areas like lips and cheeks.
- Liquid Facelift – This combination of Botox/Dysport and fillers allows for comprehensive wrinkle-taming and volume-boosting results across the face.
- Silhouette InstaLift – Absorbable sutures lift skin in key areas like the cheeks to lighten wrinkles and stimulate future collagen production.
- NovaThreads – PDO threads are ideal for lifting the jowls, cheeks, lips and neck to encourage new collagen growth and improve lines on the lower half of the face.
- Morpheus8 – Radiofrequency microneedling stimulates deep skin tightening through enhanced collagen production.
