Cutera – Excel V™
Our physicians use Excel V to target and eliminate unsightly veins on your face or body. This technology uses two precision lasers and treats different types of visible vessels, from small spider veins to veins that appear blue and reticular.
Excel V is very fast, safe, and effective.
How does Excel Vein Therapy work?
The Excel V system delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be.
How many treatments are required?
Some treatments require one to two sessions, but this number varies based on your condition. During your consultation, our doctor will examine your concerns and give you a treatment plan and package.
How long is a procedure?
Treatments are generally set at 15 minute intervals. We will schedule you for treatments every 3-4 weeks according to your treatment plan.
Is the treatment painful?
Treatments can feel similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin but is very tolerable. If you choose so, we can give you a topical anesthetic to make the treatment more comfortable. Following your treatment, pain is minimal to non-existent.
When will I see results?
Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months.
Are there any side effects or downtime?
Redness and/or swelling is the most common side effect following the treatment. This should subside in a few days. Very rarely a patient will experience bruising or blisters. You should be able to return to normal activities immediately, being careful to avoid sunlight or wearing sunscreen regularly to protect the treated area. Any other activities to avoid will be expressed after your treatment.
Will the spider veins return?
The treated veins will not return, but over time different spider veins may appear. These can be touched up by the Excel V, as well.
How does it work?
Sclerotherapy works by injecting solution into the vein with a very fine needle, causing irritation and closure. The body then breaks down the damaged vein and absorbs it.
What is a treatment like?
There is no pre-treatment preparation or anesthetics involved. Sclerotherapy injections are associated with minimal discomfort during the short treatment. Several treatments may be needed over the course of your treatment plan, depending on the condition of your veins.
What are post-treatment instructions?
You may return to normal activities with a few exceptions. We ask that you avoid prolonged sitting and standing for three days. Also, heavy exercise (weight lifting, running and high impact aerobics) should be avoided for two weeks. Walking is encouraged after the treatments and prescription-gradient compression hose are worn for 9 days after each treatment.
