State-of-the-Art Spider Vein Treatment Options
We are proud to be among the first in Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland to provide some of the most clinically advanced vein treatment options.
Our team has years of experience, an array of state of the art techniques, and the guidance of our three interventional radiologists backing our vein treatment expertise.
Cutera – Excel V™
Our physicians use Excel V to target and eliminate blue, red or purple spider veins on your face or body. This technology uses two precision lasers and treats different types of visible vessels, from small spider veins to veins that appear blue and reticular.
Excel V is very fast, safe, and effective.
Sclerotherapy
During sclerotherapy, your physician injections a solution directly into the vein. This causes the vein to scar and ultimately collapse. The blood reroutes to healthier, deeper veins that are not visible through the skin.
Treatment is quick and minimally invasive and treated veins typically fade within several weeks, with full results showing in up to two months.
How does Excel V vein therapy work?
The Excel V system delivers pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel. The vessel is then safely reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will be redirected to veins deeper below your skin’s surface, where it should be and where veins are not visible through your skin.
How many treatments are required?
Most patients require one to two treatment sessions, but this number varies based on your condition. During your consultation, our doctor will examine your concerns and give you a treatment plan and customized package.
How long is a procedure?
Treatments are generally set at 15 minute intervals. We will schedule you for treatments every 3-4 weeks according to your treatment plan.
Is the treatment painful?
Treatments can feel similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin and the sensation is very tolerable. If you choose, we can give you a topical anesthetic to make treatment more comfortable. Following your treatment, pain is minimal to non-existent.
When will I see results?
Most patients find that the majority of the treated veins have shown significant improvement within two to six weeks of treatment. However, your final results may not be apparent for several months.
Are there any side effects or downtime?
Redness and/or swelling is the most common side effect following the treatment. This should subside in a few days. Very rarely, a patient will experience bruising or blisters.
You should be able to return to normal activities immediately, being careful to avoid sunlight or wearing sunscreen regularly to protect the treated area. Your provider will tell you whether there are any other activities you should avoid at your treatment session.
Will the spider veins return?
The treated veins will not return, but over time, new spider veins may appear. These can be touched up with laser treatment as well.
How does sclerotherapy work?
During sclerotherapy, your physician injects a solution into the vein with a very fine needle, causing vein irritation and closure. The body then breaks down the damaged vein and safely absorbs it.
What is a sclerotherapy treatment like?
There is no pre-treatment preparation or anesthetics involved. Sclerotherapy treatments are brief, and patients experience only minimal discomfort. Several treatments may be needed over the course of your treatment plan, depending on the condition of your veins.
What are post-sclerotherapy treatment instructions?
You may return to normal activities with a few exceptions. We ask that you avoid prolonged sitting and standing for three days. Also, heavy exercise (weight lifting, running and high impact aerobics) should be avoided for two weeks. Walking is encouraged after the treatments and prescription-gradient compression hose are worn for 9 days after each treatment.
